Greater Baltimore Committee Announces 12 Mayor’s Business Recognition Award Recipients

The Greater Baltimore Committee and the Baltimore Development Corporation have selected 12 businesses to receive the 2021 Mayor’s Business Recognition Award, which honors organizations that have demonstrated significant leadership and service to improve the quality of life in Baltimore.

The annual awards are given for specific activities that have significantly benefited Baltimore City and are outside the regular mission or day-to-day work or activities of the business.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott will be a featured speaker at the 47th annual event, scheduled for December 16, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. The event will be held virtually.

Examples of projects and activities this year’s award winners initiated include: Assisting small businesses in the Baltimore region with COVID-19 relief and recovery with businesses in the city receiving $820,000, or one-third of the aid this year; investing in West Baltimore to improve social determinants of health, ranging from food access, job training, employment and youth mentoring; Establishing and co-managing a mass COVID-19 vaccination site at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore city; And providing critical contributions to the Food With a Focus program to ensure vulnerable families with safe ways to receive food during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This year’s award recipients and their initiatives are a testament to just how vital the business community in the city has been in stepping up to help address the pandemic and other pressing issues in a most challenging year,” said Donald C. Fry, President and CEO of the Greater Baltimore Committee.

“All of these projects are examples of the dedication and commitment these businesses, and many others, have to the city today and in the future,” said Fry.
